Surfactants are classified into four main categories


Anionic surfactants - They are negatively charged and commonly used in cleaning products like laundry detergents, dish soap, and shampoo. Examples of anionic surfactants include sodium lauryl sulfate and sodium laureth sulfate.

Cationic surfactants - They are positively charged and often used as antibacterial agents in cleaning products, fabric softeners, and hair conditioners. Examples of cationic surfactants include benzalkonium chloride and cetyltrimethylammonium bromide.

Nonionic surfactants - They have no charge and are commonly used in personal care products like facial cleansers and body washes. Examples of nonionic surfactants include polysorbate 20 and polyethylene glycol.

Amphoteric surfactants - They have both positive and negative charges and are often used in personal care products for their gentle cleansing properties. Examples of amphoteric surfactants include cocamidopropyl betaine and disodiu
